Gmail now supports IMAP for free
If you have unlimited data access from your mobile device, you may be interested in this.
Gmail has just announced its suppport for IMAP. This allows you to use your phone's built-in email interface to access messages in your Gmail account without the need to go to the Gmail website. The advantages of IMAP over POP are reliability and its multi-device support.
