Thankful for the computer I am typing onto - essentially the only thing I know well enough to make a living with.
Thankful for the Internet connection with which I am blogging - without which I wouldn't be able to work remotely for my job.
Thankful for the afternoon tea I had a couple hours ago - I wouldn't have gone to that restaurant without the flexibility of my work.
Thankful for the clothing I have on right now to fight the chilling weather - without which I would be shivering and feeling numb right now.
Thankful for the air I breathe in. It's much cleaner than that on the road - and thankful for the cleaners and construction workers on the streets.
Thankful for the access to clean WC - so many children still don't know how one looks like.
Thankful for the access to the health system - I could have been one of the children in Africa who die of poor water quality.
Thankful for the immunization shots I had in my early days - I could have been infected and died of a deadly disease.
Thankful for the education I received - I can even spell my name!
Thankful for the TV shows that entertain me - pure luxury.
Thankful for the gifts from my siblings - what have I done to deserve them?
Thankful for the fellowship with brothers and sisters in church - you have been a safety net for my heart especially when I am depressed.
Thankful for the opportunity to sing in the choir - what an amazing time to cheer for the love and the truth that make the world a livable place.
Thankful for the electricity and light with which I can work at night - again, isn't it a luxury? =)
Thankful for picking me up when my intoxicated mind no longer told right from wrong - You went to the souls' dumpster to reach for, not once, but so many times.
Thankful for friendship that lasts - each of them is a heavenly bonus to my lifelong journey.
Thankful for having known people who come in and out of my life - there's so much to learn from and to be thankful to them.
Thankful for the passerbys - I wish I would have made a better effort to make peace with them.
Thankful for having a dad and a mom - or would I be able to be thankful here at all?
Thankful for having all my siblings - I wasn't alone even when I was sent to somewhere I wouldn't call home.
Thankful for showing me grace and walking with me - You wait and care for me even when I let You down, not letting me go astray.

Thankful for forgiving my many transgressions - thanks for freeing me from the low ideals and the sense of undeserved love and the chains of bondage in Your presence.

Thankful for Your miracles - to give me the extra strength my weak mind needed.
Thankful for Your touches on my soul - so I undeniably know that You are with me.
Thankful for sending messages to me each week during sermon - I know each of them addresses me.

Morality in Our Heart

There is a new TV commercial on air in HK. The HK gov created a pretty stylish ad against tolerance towards corruption at workplace. The first question I would have, as the finger pointer, is whether I would be affected by it. Then I recalled Bill Clinton's sex scandal and how it was played down publicly. Now no one cares if it has ever happened.
With those thoughts I came to a conclusion that any person would--our hearts decay along with our tolerance to evil. I could have avoided the E word. Yet, I would then be tolerating sin out self-pity-ness. I suppose some do not think of anything wrong between Clinton and Monica, for they do not put value on fidelity. Convenience and satisfaction of flesh are far more meaningful to them. In a global trend towards higher degree of freedom and sensational satisfaction, morality is determined to be kicked out of homes, schools and workplaces. Once it was the crux of the constitution, now it's a word that is forbidden in our daily lives. We live in an era in which efficiency weights over personality. When we talk about work ethics, it's only about tolerance towards all kinds of preferential differences. As a society, we have at will given away our responsibilities to steward within ourselves, for ever higher gratification and less guilt among others. I then recall in Genesis how Cain killed his brother Abel over jealousy. When the Lord asked Cain where his brother went, Cain lied. The all-knowing Lord spoke that the land had complained to Him of the blood it received of Abel. It uncovered the murder to the Lord. During our lifetime, we just go along with the injustice of the age, go on with our personal gratification and let alone the cry of the innocent and the righteous. Until the day the Lord comes find us.

Knocked off course

I really don't like to take on this new task. Yet there's no one else around to take it over. I had plans that I can no longer go with because of that. How discouraging. I guess I am mean in a sense that whenever it comes to things that disrupt my personal schedule, I get really frustrated and reluctant about it. I would keep on mentally picturing the troubles doing so and longing for ways to escape from the responsibility. After all, I haven't gone to CBP for a couple of months already. And out of all days in the week I can probably only go there tomorrow. Now I can no longer... sigh...

The positive side of me tries to intervene. I am advised that it would be a good time to get to make a new friend. The will to stay positive on this is admittedly weak. I hope the mood for the rest of the day isn't going to be completely spoiled. It took so much to get myself in a good mood after all...

Office - it's a flight simulator

I recall that one of the old Office versions had a 3D flight simulator built in as an easter egg. Yet it hadn't come to me that the new "ribbon" user interface on Office 2007 look like the control panel of an aircraft. Nice analogy there, Edward.

Something is being weird in me. I feel that I am swung off balance. I notice myself trying hard to run from one end of the beam to the other end, yet I find myself next moment at the original spot.

Up moments were aplenty these days. Many decisions we made and we better worked with and understood one another than ever before.
Not sure why but something in me has not been comforted. A flint looked for water to crunch its thirst, yet to no avail. It gradually lit up the dry grass nearby and turned itself into a blaze, with its crawls and fangs reaching for things to devour. The smoke of the flame came into my sight. I wonder if others have noticed the fire well before I did. Yet I was the only one there to do something about it. With all my might, I drew water from wells and carried as much as I could to put it off. It appeared to retreat sometimes but it never extinguished. Now I come face-to-face to it: This is a monster that is not what I can handle by myself. Its vulgar and relentless look resembles that of a devil. Its fists are ready for a duel at any moment. Its lips are taunting with inaudible words. I have been trying hard to tell myself not to marginalize part of self because I believed it would lead to nothing but bi-polar behaviors. It does seem now that there is something in myself that I have to fight against. I didn't realize but now I know the face of the enemy that has already been hiding in my heart. And I know why I trust in You. Even the inferno that no one cares or dares to come near, Your hand reaches into. I hear the evil laughter lurking in the darkness and I also know there is the Light that will take me back into safety. If one cannot hear such deafening cries, I doubt if he would look for the Light.
Off balance I am. Yet a helping hand has come to rescue and made itself my footing. I realize how fragile I am when I go out to the fields alone. I'd call your name only when I run into trouble. Yet like a sheep which has not been tamed, I seldom listen to your voice. There's a part of me who's always disobedient and only when realizing my transgressions would he subdue himself. You know what I have done against you and also the sufferings of the present. Nothing more I want to write down, not a prayer for help, not a praise, not how much I am confident in you, but just one thing--Your helping hand will reach into the darkness for me.
And when you come for me would you also please show me how I may witness to the world what you did in me?

If the thoughts of missing a person... are so strong that my faith in You becomes undermined -- it might sound so romantic yet it is not true love. Only when I do everything in Your name I would be worth what You have given to me. Yet I would never be worth what You have given to me... because You died for me when I was still enjoying myself in my many transgressions... If my faith is undermined... what kind of love is left in me? I miss so much that it hurts in my heart... but ain't I a selfish person? There are times my mind wonders far away... I have wondered before how the knowledge of Christ protects me when I am asleep. Frankly, knowledge opens the door to Christ... yet one has to walk into the door and emerge himself in it. Having the knowledge and knowing it as the Truth are two completely different matters. He who has little faith... could very well turn out to be a lazy, selfish person. Yet Your providence is abundant, even to someone like him. Why else You place angels around him? He who is selfish shall pray more. I very much liked the sermon Ms Yip gave last weekend at my church... the teachings were direct like that from a father. The difference is the message she gave was one from the Bible. It's not merely human teaching. Direct yet unselfish. He who is selfish must now know that You have guided him with both a whip and open arms. He who just suffers from his own heartache must realize that there is greater strength in one because of faith. And when he promised to be good, there is only one way-- to heed to the words of You. We who believe in Your strength, turn our thoughts into power through which love can be manifested. No more waiting, ye all.

Was looking for a new phone yesterday. Specifically I was interested in HTC's Touch Dual. I walked into the stores of a handful of carriers and asked them about the phone. When it comes to dealing with struggles, it is imperative to tell the difference between faith and greed. A person with faith is optimistic in the presence of struggles because he believes in a greater power of goodness that will ultimately triumph. A greedy person however puts himself in a bubble in the name of faith to hide away from consequences he has created for himself.

Where's the watershed in between the two? It is true that obstacles bring us to our knees, praying for help, and make us realize how powerless we intrinsically are. I admit to be one of those who struggle over obstacles. The realization of our powerlessness is crucial in the search of our spirituality. It highlights our need for external help. It also highlights our desire to mitigate sufferings, may they be self-inflicted or imposed, legitimate or baseless, avoidable or destined. Sin entered the world, and matters since then have become so complicated so quickly that rationalizing sufferings becomes a nearly impossible task. So many things have gone wrong that we find no escape from hurts and sufferings. The opposite to taking the collective blame is denying it to the fullest extent. Today's culture makes us efficent engines of self-liberation, from blames and even our own responsibilities and guilts. The thoughts of the whole generation have become marginalized to accept that personal happiness equals goodness and have been happily doing so. Haven't we been happy doing so when we look away from all problems and please ourselves with goodies? We try very hard to be happy and marginally feel so but knowing full well deep inside ourselves that sufferings didn't go away. Guilts didn't go away no matter how deep we emerge ourselves in the pool of pleasures. The promise of salvation is absolutely appealing to ears of those who run away from their sufferings, with guilts or not. If one's sole intent is to look away from his transgressions, let him bait himself with the sight of an easy exit which he will one day find to be a curse. The powerful Gospel of Salvation seems easy only to those who want nothing but to take advantage of it.

Neither lose heart nor be confused, however. The Gospel is indeed the way to true freedom from sin and its suffocating guilts. It is the only way to true life we have been given. When we take that step to wear like a believer, walk like a believer, act like a believer, are we putting our trust in truth or simply reaping from the great promise? We are already told that in the midst of needy, vulnerable sheep hide wolves that intend nothing but to kill and feed themselves. But the day will come that they will be judged by a powerful fist. Isn't fear an interesting character in this scene? When the sherperd calls his sheep, good sheep answer to his voice out of love and strayed sheep answer to it out of fear. I don't think wolves have no fear. But they fear their sufferings more than the price they will have to pay. They hear not the sherperd's calls of both judgement and love.

Even in fear, some strayed sheep wonder around on their own. That's why there are fences to warn them of the chance of losing themselves in guilts on the outside. The self-righteous thoughts in one's mind blind himself of the warning signs and shut his ears off the sherperd's calls. The fences mean nothing to him. He is too "smart" for them. I have been a strayed sheep for a long while and I feel I am still one today. But there is hope, as a part of me wants to do right and I still faintly hear the shepherd's call. Help me come forth to you, dear Jesus.

Pick me up

Anxiety got the better of me. I had to take a stroll in the park to unwind. It has been a while since I go outdoor to enjoy the greens and singing birds. The city drained me. The open view of the water and mountains didn't set me free. I was encaged in a housing unit neighboring a high-rise building. I could literally see what's going on inside the offices and the cubicles, and what's on the desks. I was further saddened by my selfish desire and my lack of trust in the Lord and His helping hand. After all, I was saddened because of the trouble we are going through all due to my fault. I dragged myself from one place to another. The selfish engine did a good job in protecting me from wondering into the abyss of self-condemns. Part of me didn't let go and told me I had to go on. I had to find my way back to peace. I knew only one place I could find it--in His comforting palm. Into my sight came a book fair. A book drew my attention--Jewish businessmen. Its cover attempted to convey that they were successful businessmen. Presumerably they had their own special way to deal with others. And the one thing I knew they were special for was their perception of eternity. Yes, eternity. "He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end." --Ecclesiastes 3:11. I am not at my end. I shall wither or I shall not, God will set His time. At the end of the tunnel, He will be there. I can put aside my negative feelings till that day. Meanwhile, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." commands 1 Peter 5:7.

I believe: the deeper the hole in one's heart, the bigger God's grace is in one's life. You are listening. Let me look no other way but open my heart to Your grace.

活在氣泡裡

中午時分，落樓買個包。沿途的一所服裝店在櫥窗的一角擺放著牌子，上面寫著："Cute as Hell"。開導自己，這只是玩世不恭者的"figure of speech"。以前有這樣的事，現今也有，有甚麼奇怪了。奇怪的就是，現今有誰認為可愛可以像地獄那般。又有誰對這樣的說話敏感呢？換個角度說，「放任和自我」不就是個人主義的王牌嗎？

有誰介意Hell是一個很好玩的地方還是地獄？Cute等同可愛還是寵愛自己的感覺？當我認為"these are just words"的時候，我覺得怎樣過癮就怎樣說的時候，"Cute as Hell"有何不對？與你有舍相干？你曾到地獄走了一趟嗎？你就算是語文教授，甚至諾貝爾文學奬得主，也沒有資格對我說三道四。

這樣的人，可以一世生活在氣泡裡，又或者生活在志同道合的群體當中。那不就容易了？反正地球對他們來說可能也不過是個大氣泡而矣。只怕有天，天使跟他提到地獄，他還以為去可愛的地方好好遊玩呢。

I didn't see through the peephole how He looked like
I didn't hear a noise but the knock on the door
I didn't touch nothing and
I couldn't even tell who's on the other side

It's not me who found Him
He came and knocked on my door
Maybe deep in our hearts
there's always a path
that leads Him to us

I claim not I did anything worthy
Take Jesus from me and watch

走到樓下銀行分行徼費、改地址，又詢問櫃檯服務員如何以徼費靈徼交賬單。
她不知道，就問身旁較有經驗的同事。得出的答案在意料之內，可是那不確定的神情...還是打去客戶服務熱線安心點。
難得下了樓，不如入商場走走。
不算肚仔餓，只是離早餐已經有六、七個小時。
順便上上層的麥記。奇怪，今天這麼多人排隊，大概因為年三十早下班的關係。平日的我，見到長龍應該早已走開了。
在打了蛇餅的龍尾，想：排到龍頭要多久？便不願再想。轉去看想吃甚麼。
要一個餐嗎？太多了，吃不下晚飯便不好了。要試新的椒財飽嗎？只有跟餐的（我的臉再受不了熱氣的薯條了）。兒童餐嗎？比較健康，但原來只比普通餐平三元，而且份量少得多。
兒童餐餐牌旁邊的不是雪糕嗎？是軟身的（我喜歡硬身的），可是有朱古力脆皮。三個半，只比ＯＫ貴五毛錢。
一對兄弟走入眼廉。他們倆走到旁邊沒有開的櫃檯，一次又一次，多次沒有收銀員理會他們。
他們有甚麼要求呢？我沒有問他是甚麼事，怕因為我的原故令到我後面的人等得更久。
他們這樣子走來切綫，也難怪別人不理會他們。那哥哥蠻害羞的，也不像那種擺明打尖的人。
在差不多輪到我的時候，我條隊個收銀員聽到他的聲音。原來那哥哥想要一杯水。
收銀員不客氣地回答：「唔該排隊。」排隊是應該的，但我同情那對兄弟。
我只需要一個包，可以外帶的。但我向那位收銀員叫了「一個ＸＸ包和一杯暖水，堂食。」
不消一刻，包和水到手了。拿著盤子的我舉目四望，卻找不到那對兄弟的踪跡。
包吃了，還是找不著他們。把拿在手中的水喝了。沒理由將它浪費了。

While watching your episode, I realized as an investor this mortgage crisis is ultimately going to cost me something. feel a great sense of responsibility to pay bills which I've honestly contracted. However there are laws against usury for a reason and the mortgage brokers/banks/real estate agents/investment companies who participated in this incredible charade of selling people houses and mortgages at sub-prime rates and then jacking up the rates two or three years down the road deserve to lose their shirts. The more I've learned about lending practices in general (watch the movie "Maxed Out" if you want to understand how credit card companies operate) the more convinced I am that all lenders should be treated like vipers and kept as far away as humanly possible! Signing a contract without reading it is just plain stupid, but there are a lot of stupid people around and plenty of banks etc to take advantage of them. If you do take such advantage, you deserve to suffer. I don't think -any- of the people "walking away from their homes" envisioned that as an exit strategy when they bought. I can't say that the folks on the other side of the transaction had any scruples at all. They deserve what they get. (BTW, hubby and I are and will continue to pay all of our loans. We did not participate in this chicanery, so I am not writing with an axe to grind.)

Our little inventions in the big picture

We were born with a creative mind. We can imagine things that do not exist and in ways that no second person has thought of. Would anyone disagree that creativity is part of our nature?

Pragmatically speaking, human beings invented many things on earth. The first working laser was demostrated in 1960. Henry Woodward invented light bulb in late 19th century. Fireworks have already been invented by the 12th century in ancient China. Sundials were invented thousand years ago. We, collectively as a species, never stop inventing new things. In fact, we have been making progress in inventing artifical lifeforms.

Figuratively speaking, human beings also invented many ideas in their lives--Harry Porter, The Lord of the Rings, and innumerable seas of written stories and tales, as well as hypotheses, philosophies, entertainments, rules, and customs. It seems that by definition a creative mind strives be different from anything else. Many of them were invented for the good of mankind. Many of them were invented for the good of our own selves.

Whereas it may seem by chance that some intelligent beings like us have dominance over the world, it is not by chance alone. If by chance, the whole earth might not have existed and we would be just fragments of thoughts in the void. Well actually, there might not even be such things as things, ideas or even the void. Whereas it may seem by our hard work that we have dominance over the world, it is not solely by our hard work. Without light, how could there be laser? Without fire, how could there be fireworks? Without a creative mind, how could there be inventions?

A car without an odormeter still runs. But a car without carbon, metal, or even a design may not. Those of us who defy the idea of creation but worship the idol of chance shall come out of their world of little inventions. Those of us who believe the ultimate freedom were to break apart from everything else shall understand that they have no soil to plant themselves within. Those of us who think they have full power over their lives and their world have no idea where they end up going. The physical and mental worlds we live in, after all, were neither created by mere chance nor by our ancestors. Our existence, after all, cannot be explained without the existence of a Creator--He who has given us a creative mind and dominance over the world.

葛牧師口中的福音，很簡單直接。

我的眼睛告訴我，很多很多的人，就是因著接受這個直接的福音，以信心走上草坪接受了耶穌。這就是事實。

因這次佈道會如此簡單直接地將福音說明，而信耶穌的人，好證明了福音的能力，並不是由於美侖美奐。

我疑問：若果當年我聽的是這樣簡單的版本，我會樂意接受福音嗎？

減去了見證，減去了煽情的故事，減去了惋轉的說話。今天的我，信心足以接納怎樣的福音呢？而我口中的福音又是怎樣的呢？

當天所用的經文出自馬可福音10:17-22。

耶穌出來行路的時候，有一個人跑來，跪在他面前，問他說：良善的夫子，我當作甚麼事才可以承受永生？耶穌對他說：你為甚麼稱我是良善的？除了神一位之外，再沒有良善的。誡命你是曉得的：不可殺人；不可姦淫；不可偷盜；不可作假見證；不可虧負人；當孝敬父母。他對耶穌說：夫子，這一切我從小都遵守了。耶穌看著他，就愛他，對他說：你還缺少一件：去變賣你所有的，分給窮人，就必有財寶在天上；你還要來跟從我。他聽見這話，臉上就變了色，憂憂愁愁的走了，因為他的產業很多。

以前中學的陸運會在灣仔運動場舉行，加上自己不是波友，入香港大球場還是頭一趟。
星期五晚和星期天走進這個大球場，是因為葛福臨佈道會的原故。

是的，我所認識的耶穌，極大部份是表面的，因為我的心一直不願去放棄自己，來來去去都只是在試驗神。偶爾全心信靠，但都是因為神祂自願施憐憫予我這個不配的罪人，引領我的心走出固執的牢籠，讓我的眼睛在封閉的心靈路上望見曙光。我對耶穌的信，確是少的。我每次游離，對抗神的時候，我也真的懷疑過。這樣的事，就是昨天（星期天）也發生著。令我驚訝的是，我被挽回，一次一次的挽回。我的信是少的，至多在懷疑的時候，留機會讓神為自己答辨。我怎樣對祂不明、不滿，祂都給我機會，必為自己愛我的原故，讓我認識祂。是的，昨天在領主餐之前，我發現我竟忘了我所稱為主的耶穌！竟要努力在腦海中翻開經上的話語，才找著祂的衣角、憶起祂的聲音。你說說這是怎樣子的信徒？我真的信耶穌嗎？

ImageStation download software walkthrough

If you have been reading my blog, you should know that Sony's ImageStation web site is closing on Feb 1, 2008. That means the photos and videos hosted by the web site will no longer be available for viewing or download from then on. ImageStation offers a few options for its members to keep their photos available. One of such options is a software that runs on the user's computer to download the originals of all the photos from his/her online albums. I dedicate this post to walkthrough the software.

Software download
Once you sign in the ImageStation web site, you can find a red banner at the top of the page. The link on the banner takes you to the available options for keeping your photos. In particular, you will find the following section:

Click on the "Learn more" link regarding download of full-resolution original photos. You will be sent to a page that lets you download the photo download software according to the operation system that runs on your home computer.

I picked "Windows version" for my computer running Windows Vista. If you use a Mac computer, choose "Macintosh version". Follow the download instructions provided by your web browser.

Software walkthrough
Run the application from where it has been placed. On Windows, you may need to answer to a couple of security warning dialog boxes in order to have the software up and running. Here's the first screen of the software running on Windows Vista. You are prompted to enter your ImageStation user ID and password.

Once you have filled in the information and clicked "Sign in", the software begins to collect information regarding your hosted photos. The screen shows how many albums you have, and how many it has collected information from. The time it takes to complete this step varies by how many photos you have uploaded to the web site. In my case, I had over 300 albums and presumably over 10,000 photos on the web site. It took a few minutes for the step to come to completion.

Once the software is done with collecting photo information, you are told how much disk space is needed to download all your photos. You are also prompted for a location on your local computer to store the photos to be downloaded. You are free to hit "Download" to begin the lengthy download process. Before doing so, you may take a look at the advanced options you are given.

More download options
Clicking at the "Show Advanced Options" checkbox, a host of new options are shown at the bottom of the screen.

The "Organize images into subfolders that match my album titles" option is preselected. Uncheck the option only if you do not want photos to be saved into subfolders corresponding to their albums. I'd not disable this option.

The next option is a bit tricky. The software asks for a prefix for the names of the files to be saved for the photos. Why, you may ask, would I need to care about that? It's at Sony's fault. They claim that once photos have been uploaded to ImageStation, their original file names are removed on the web site. Therefore, the software cannot come up with the original file names for the hosted photos. The software preselects "is_" to be the file name prefix. Yet you can specify a different prefix. I personally think it is a really bad default value. More importantly, I think it is just dumb the way ImageStation handles the file names. When the photos are uploaded, the titles of the photos are by default their original file names. So in case the title of a hosted photo stays unchanged (that is the case for 99% of my photos), the software can correctly reconstruct the local file names of the photos. I will probably make this request to ImageStation afterwards.
You can also find at the bottom of the screen options to specify proxy server information to establish proper network connection to ImageStation. This again I find dumb as this option should be made available on the first screen of the software, it tries to connect to the ImageStation online service.

Conclusion
Well, this software is far from being perfect. But this is the only option you have if you want to get back the originals of your precious memories. A couple more things before I close, I haven't tried proceeding with "Download" yet. That's why I haven't shown you the download progress screen and whatever comes after. Secondly, the way the software asks for a prefix for the local file names suggests to me that the software may not be downloading hosted videos onto the local computer at all! I cannot tell for sure until I attempt the download myself. If you have already tried, please post your findings as comments here. Otherwise, I may create a test ImageStation account (if the web site still takes new registration) and try it out before playing with my eronmous collection of hosted photos and videos. I wonder if it would take days to download them all. That's given the unstable wireless connection my computer uses survives throughout the download!

香港的信用卡公司都喜歡以贈品吸引顧客。老實說，我也因為贈品的原故開了張新卡。本來我想開的是東亞卡，因為那架實用的Sony數碼相機。詳情：請按此處。但之後發現不但相機價格被跨大，價錢不足千六元竟寫成為二千；網上資料更有失實之處，沒有當面說明要額外付五百多元方能取得贈品。怪不得有人認為我沒有看清楚資料。就是放在東亞分行的小冊子上，也只把補錢的說明放到不起眼的位置。不但如此，新卡的規條更強迫性地要客戶負交一百元手續費啟用他不一定用的透支服務，這也沒有大字交代清楚。這種不盡不實的交代手法，委實令人結氣。

This is major news in the software security community. The hacking team claimed that they could crack a Windows Vista password in 3-5 days with the aid of a not-so-expensive graphics card. And from the screenshot it looked like the password cracking software needs to run in the same local network as the victim. A few things come to my mind:

Blocking physical access to your local network is still the safest measure.
Always deploy a firewall to block unwanted network traffic.
Don't access websites that do not estalish secured log-on.
Avoid using public WIFI networks.
Always keep your computer up-to-date with the latest security patches.
Disconnect Internet connection after use. Unplugging your computer is the only sure way it does not get hacked.
Don't create file shares and don't host unneeded network services (including BT, eMule and other P2P services).
Don't download or install third party applications (including web controls) just because they look cute.
Install anti-virus software. Even free products like AVG or Avast! are very effective. Ask a computer guru friend when your computer begins to act funny.

Was it my own desire to complete a perfect story?

Guess the bottom line is I did something out of my own effort trying to make things better with my little knowledge and care about how people feel.

I'll admit it was risky. Would I choose to do it, at this point of time? Probably.
But the point is--a stupid person doesn't become any smarter by simply asking. I guess the point of getting smarter is try to experience more and think less. There's a point where too much thinking brings ignorance rather than wisdom out of a person.
